Starry Pine Forest Sgraffito Pottery Mug, Navy & Lavender
A quiet winter night in the woods, carved by hand.
This one-of-a-kind mug is thrown on the wheel in my Idaho studio. A deep cobalt glaze covers the top like a night sky, then softens into lavender and dusky pink near the base, like the last light before dark. Around the outside I carved a row of pine trees and twinkling stars by hand in sgraffito, so the warm, bare clay shows through in every needle and point of light. The inside is a glossy, deep navy, and the handle is pulled by hand with a gentle, organic curve.
It holds a generous 16 oz, just right for a big cup of cocoa or tea on a cold evening, and it makes a thoughtful holiday gift for anyone who loves the forest, the mountains or a starry sky.
