Sgraffito Utensil Crock with Heron, Crab & Fish
Hand-carved in stoneware and finished with a glossy jet-black glaze, this one-of-a-kind vessel is wheel-thrown and etched using the sgraffito technique — carving through black slip to reveal the pale clay beneath.
Swimming across the surface: a wading heron, a scuttling crab, and a fish drifting through swaying seaweed, a nod to the ocean and all that lives within it.
Use it as a catch-all vase for garden-cut stems, or let it pull double duty as a utensil crock beside your stove — sturdy enough for whisks, spatulas, and tongs, with a wide opening that keeps everything within reach. The interior is fully glazed with a food-safe, dishwasher-safe glaze, and the unglazed foot is left raw for a grounded, natural finish typical of handmade pottery.
Because each piece is thrown and carved entirely by hand, no two are exactly alike — this listing is for the exact piece shown in the photos, ready to ship.

About Outer Reef Ceramics
Handmade by Amy in her home studio, where every piece is wheel-thrown, carved, and glazed one at a time — inspired by the ocean and everything that lives within it. Because these are handmade, please allow for small natural variations in glaze, carving, and shape; that's the charm of one-of-a-kind pottery.
